Five answers before allocation.

Does the ISBN appear in my name as the author?+
Yes — the author is registered as the owner, with Penray Publication as the publisher. This means if you ever switch publishers, the ISBN registry shows you as the author of record. You retain all author rights. (Note: ISBN is not the same as copyright — see next question.)
What's the difference between ISBN and copyright?+
Different things, often confused. ISBN is an identifier — like a phone number for your book. Copyright is the legal right to publish, reproduce, and license. You automatically own copyright the moment you write something, but formal registration (Form XIV with the Govt of India) helps in disputes. We can file copyright as an add-on (₹2,000).
Do I need a separate ISBN for paperback and eBook?+
Yes — and for hardcover, audiobook, large print, and other formats. Each format gets its own ISBN. That's why Get Published includes 2 ISBNs (paperback + eBook) and Publish, Promote & Position includes 3 (paperback + eBook + hardcover). If you publish more formats later, additional ISBNs are free for Penray books.
Can I use the ISBN if I switch to another publisher later?+
Yes. The ISBN is registered to you (the author) — Penray is listed as the publisher. If you move to another publisher, you can either keep the existing ISBN (with Penray as publisher of record for the past) or get a new ISBN from your new publisher. Either way, you retain all author rights over your manuscript and the original ISBN entry.
How long does ISBN allocation take?+
Typically 2–4 working days after submission. Sometimes 1 day (priority allocation in Publish & Promote+ packages). Occasionally slower if isbn.gov.in has technical issues — these are rare but happen. We monitor your application daily until allocated and chase up if delayed.
