We pulled the data ourselves. 100 self-published books on Amazon.in, sampled across fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and memoir, published in 2024 and 2025. We tracked price, cover style, page count, review count, and sales rank over a six-week window.
What predicted sales rank
The single strongest signal was review count. Books with 25+ reviews sat at a median rank of 12,400; books with under 5 reviews sat at 287,000. Price barely mattered between ₹199 and ₹349.
What didn't matter
Page count. Genre. Whether the cover used a serif or sans-serif. Whether the author photo was on the back cover. The author's social-media follower count.
